We have completed a third year of first aid training for pre-registration pharmacists from the East Midlands NHS Hospitals. The course has been designed to give graduate pharmacists life-saving skills, a requirement of their graduate training programme. The course was arranged and hosted by De Montfort University in Leicester.
The course is based on the HSE approved Emergency First Aid at Work course, with additional competencies covered on the day, such as managing anaphylaxis and the use of auto-injector devices. Additional requirements of the pre-registration course syllabus is covered with pre-course reading and discussion throughout the day.
In total 38 pre-registration pharmacists and 2 pharmacist tutors completed the course. Many of the delegates commented on how enjoyable the course was and how they now felt far more capable of dealing with emergency first aid incidents at work.
Comments following the course included:
“Really enjoyed this regional day. It was well aimed at pharmacy and situations we may be put in”
“The course was run by a knowledgable team who were confident in their teaching and kept the session interesting throughout”
“Loved the course – brilliantly taught and a lot of hands on practical experience provided, to automate the procedures in your head. It was much better than the first aid course during my pre-reg year and I will definitely try to renew my qualification as neccessary.”
